Eye drop showdown: can changing your Eye's microbiome ease dry eye?

NCT ID NCT06936462

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at how two different eye drop treatments affect the natural bacteria living on the eye's surface and dry eye symptoms. Fifty adults with dry eye were randomly assigned to receive either cyclosporine A plus hyaluronic acid or hyaluronic acid alone for 12 weeks. Researchers collected eye samples and measured symptoms like pain and dryness at the start, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks to see if changes in the eye's microbiome were linked to symptom relief.
