New drug cocktail aims to stop smoldering myeloma before it starts

Summary
This study tests whether a combination of three drugs (daratumumab, carfilzomib, and dexamethasone, called DKd) can prevent or slow down the progression of smoldering multiple myeloma into active disease. It includes 14 adults with high-risk smoldering myeloma. Participants receive the drugs in cycles over about a year, then daratumumab alone for up to 24 more cycles, and are followed for life.
