Teens learn disaster smarts in just 3 sessions – anxiety drops?
NCT ID NCT07667244
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether three weekly sessions of basic disaster awareness education could improve disaster literacy and reduce earthquake anxiety in adolescents aged 10-14. A total of 128 students from two middle schools in Erzincan took part, with half receiving the education and half serving as a control group. Researchers measured changes using standard scales for disaster literacy and earthquake anxiety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Basic Disaster Awareness Education (3 weekly sessions of ~40 minutes)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that simple school-based education helps teens better understand disasters and feel less anxious about earthquakes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study in one city, so results may not apply to all teens. The education is brief and may not have lasting effects.
