First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving a single dose of the steroid dexamethasone before surgery can prevent postoperative urinary retention (trouble urinating) in adults receiving spinal anesthesia. Over 1,000 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either dexamethasone or a placebo. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost approach reduces the need for a urinary catheter after surgery.
