First seen Dec 11, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study looks at 212 children aged 4-9 with cavities in their baby teeth. After a simple filling procedure, dentists will use three different methods to check for any leftover decay: a special light (FACE), a dye, and a visual-tactile exam. The goal is to see which method is most accurate at finding hidden decay, so dentists can make better treatment decisions.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help dentists choose the best way to check for hidden decay in children's teeth, leading to better fillings and fewer repeat treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on diagnosis, not treatment. The results may not apply to all children or dental practices, and the methods tested may not be widely available.
