Brain drain surgery for Alzheimer's: real help or just a trick?

NCT ID NCT07294885

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at a surgery that connects tiny lymph vessels in the neck to veins, aiming to improve fluid drainage from the brain in people with Alzheimer's. Early results showed some short-term improvements in mood and memory, but it's unclear if the surgery itself or other parts of the procedure cause these changes. The trial will compare the real surgery to a sham (fake) surgery in 50 adults aged 50-80 with mild to moderate Alzheimer's to find out what's really working.
