Freezing nerves could replace opioids for rib fracture pain

NCT ID NCT06069154

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests a single nerve-freezing procedure called cryoneurolysis to provide months of pain relief after rib fractures, without opioids or side effects. About 120 adults with 1-6 broken ribs will receive either the real treatment or a sham procedure. The goal is to see if this approach reduces pain and the need for opioid painkillers over two months.
