New biopsy tool could unlock secrets of a deadly childhood gut disease

NCT ID NCT03566160

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study tests a new, less invasive biopsy method called cryobiopsy to collect tissue samples from the small intestine. The goal is to see if it can replace standard forceps biopsy, which is too expensive and difficult to use in poor regions. If successful, this tool could help researchers understand and eventually treat a devastating gut disease that affects millions of children worldwide. The study involves 30 adults already scheduled for an endoscopy.
