Searching for early warning signs: can a simple blood test predict severe COVID-19 in vulnerable transplant patients?

NCT ID NCT04369456

Summary

This study aimed to find early signs in the blood that could predict if a kidney transplant patient's COVID-19 infection would get worse. Researchers followed 52 recently infected kidney transplant patients who had mild-to-moderate symptoms, as these patients are at higher risk. They tested blood samples to see if levels of a specific inflammation marker (IL-6) could forecast serious outcomes like needing intensive care or death.
