Cough test could help thousands get rid of breathing tubes faster

NCT ID NCT07317791

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring how hard a person can cough while their breathing tube is still in place can tell doctors when it's safe to remove it. Researchers will test 500 adults who have had a tracheostomy tube for at least two weeks. If successful, this simple test could help more people get their tubes removed safely and avoid complications.
