New ultrasound scan could predict fracture risk without X-Rays
NCT ID NCT05424536
First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested a portable ultrasound device to measure bone thickness and porosity in 50 adults over age 50. The goal was to see if this radiation-free method can identify people at risk for osteoporotic fractures as accurately as standard X-ray bone density scans. The approach uses sound waves to assess bone quality, potentially offering a cheaper and safer screening tool.
