New technique may stop cornea grafts from melting after artificial cornea implant

NCT ID NCT03041883

First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether treating a donor cornea with a special light and vitamin B2 (riboflavin) before using it as a support for the Boston artificial cornea can prevent the graft from melting. About 40 people who need this artificial cornea will be split into two groups: one gets the treated graft, the other a standard graft. Researchers will compare how often melting occurs and check vision and eye health over time.
