First seen Jan 30, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study looked at whether red blood cells from umbilical cord blood can be a safe and effective option for transfusions in extremely premature infants (born before 28 weeks). The goal was to treat anemia of prematurity, a common condition where babies don't have enough red blood cells. Researchers checked for side effects and monitored the babies' health up to 36 weeks after birth. The study involved 41 infants and was completed.
