Scientists probe Gut-Lung link in breathing disease

NCT ID NCT03327181

Summary

This study aimed to understand if people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) produce different levels of certain gut bacteria byproducts called short-chain fatty acids compared to healthy people. Researchers enrolled 63 adults, including those with COPD and healthy matched controls, to measure these substances and other health markers. The goal was to gather basic knowledge about how gut health might be connected to lung inflammation in COPD, not to test a treatment.
