Can digital scans beat molds for perfect dental implant fit?
NCT ID NCT07778199
First seen Aug 21, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether digital scanning methods or the traditional mold approach produce a better fit for full-arch dental implants in people with no teeth. Eight patients will receive four lower-jaw implants, and each will try all three impression techniques. The fit of the resulting frameworks will be checked with a clinical test and X-rays to see which method is most accurate.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Comparison of three dental impression techniques: IO-Connect digital impression, Reverse Scan Body digital impression, and conventional splinted open-tray impression.
- What this could lead to
- If one impression method proves superior, it could lead to more accurate and longer-lasting dental implant frameworks, reducing complications and improving patient comfort.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 8 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The techniques may show no significant differences, and individual patient variations could affect outcomes.
