Spit or swab? study pits rapid COVID tests against lab gold standard
NCT ID NCT04613310
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tested nearly 950 adults with COVID-19 symptoms to see how well different test methods work. Researchers compared saliva samples and nose swabs, using both a rapid antigen test (results in minutes) and a lab PCR test (results in hours). The goal was to find out which combination catches the most cases, so testing can be faster and more comfortable without missing infections.
