Breathing muscle training vs. electrical stimulation: which helps ICU patients more?

NCT ID NCT07571642

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at two different treatments to help patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) who are on breathing machines. One group did special breathing exercises (inspiratory muscle training) twice a day, and the other group received mild electrical pulses to their diaphragm muscle for 40 minutes. The goal was to see which method better improved breathing muscle strength and physical function. The study included 32 patients who were awake enough to follow commands.
