First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested whether offering a blood test (GuardantSHIELD) encourages more people to get screened for colorectal cancer compared to usual care. Over 2000 participants aged 45-75 who had not completed their screening were included. The main goal was to see if more people completed any screening within 3 months when offered the blood test.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

GuardantSHIELD Blood Test

What this could lead to

If successful, this blood test could make colorectal cancer screening easier and more accessible, potentially catching more cancers early.

What could go wrong

This is a completed study comparing screening completion rates, not a treatment trial. The blood test may not be as accurate as colonoscopy, and abnormal results still require follow-up colonoscopy.
