First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looked at whether drinking coffee after abdominal surgery can help the bowels start working again sooner. About 174 adults who had surgery were given either regular coffee, decaf coffee, or warm water three times a day. The main goal was to see if a larger study is possible, but future results may show if coffee reduces time to first gas or bowel movement.
