New cochlear implants aim to boost speech understanding in severe hearing loss

NCT ID NCT04929470

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study evaluates the safety and performance of two cochlear implants (HiRes Ultra and Ultra 3D) in 30 adults with severe-to-profound hearing loss who have not used an implant before. Participants receive the device as part of routine care, and researchers measure how much their word recognition improves compared to using hearing aids. The goal is to see if the implants provide at least a 20% better speech score, while monitoring for device failures within the first six months.
