Could a probiotic help prevent scarring in Crohn's disease?
NCT ID NCT07263880
First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tests whether a probiotic called Clostridium butyricum, alone or with a sugar called trehalose, can help prevent scarring in the gut of people with Crohn's disease. About 40 adults with a scarring type of Crohn's will take one of these treatments or a placebo for two months before a colonoscopy. Researchers will check tissue and blood samples to see if the treatments boost a natural cleanup process called autophagy and reduce inflammation and fibrosis.
