Could a flavonoid from plants boost bone healing in dental implant surgery?
NCT ID NCT07678749
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two methods of closed sinus lifting for people needing dental implants in the upper jaw but lacking enough bone height. One group receives the standard xenograft (bone substitute) alone, while the other gets the xenograft plus a liposomal Apigenin-loaded scaffold. The goal is to see if adding Apigenin, a plant-derived compound, leads to greater bone height gain. The trial involves 22 healthy adults aged 18–50 with a residual ridge height of 4–6 mm.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- liposomal Apigenin-loaded scaffold
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could improve bone healing and implant success in people with limited jawbone height, reducing the need for more invasive procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The added scaffold could cause local irritation or fail to improve bone growth over the standard method.
