Hepatitis b drug combo trial halted early – hope for virus control remains

NCT ID NCT00823342

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study compared two hepatitis B medications, clevudine and tenofovir, given alone or together for 96 weeks in adults with chronic hepatitis B who had not been treated before. The goal was to see if the combination could better control the virus and reduce the risk of it coming back after stopping treatment. The trial was terminated early, so results are limited, but the approach aimed at long-term disease management rather than a cure.
