Common allergy drug could rebuild damaged nerves in MS patients

NCT ID NCT05359653

Summary

This study is testing whether clemastine fumarate, an over-the-counter allergy medication, can repair the protective coating (myelin) around nerves that is damaged in multiple sclerosis (MS). Researchers will enroll 74 adults with relapsing-remitting MS and use specialized MRI scans to see if the drug helps regrow myelin in the brain over six months. The goal is to find a treatment that directly fixes the nerve damage causing MS disability, rather than just suppressing the immune system.
