Summary

This trial is testing whether taking a daily Ceylon cinnamon supplement, combined with a structured educational program, can improve blood sugar control, cholesterol levels, and nerve pain in adults with type 2 diabetes and painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. About 900 participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: standard care, cinnamon alone, or cinnamon plus the educational program, for six months. The goal is to see if this combined approach offers better metabolic and pain relief than standard care alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Ceylon cinnamon supplement (1,000 mg/day) and a self-efficacy-based educational program
What this could lead to
If effective, this combination could offer a natural, low-cost way to improve blood sugar control and reduce painful nerve damage in people with type 2 diabetes.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial, and results may not be conclusive. Cinnamon may interact with diabetes medications, and the educational program's impact may vary widely among participants.
