Can we predict chronic pain after breast cancer surgery?
NCT ID NCT06592053
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates factors that may influence the development of chronic pain after mastectomy surgery. Researchers will follow 200 women undergoing elective mastectomy, tracking their pain levels and quality of life at 3 and 6 months after surgery. The goal is to identify risk factors, such as age or pre-existing pain, that could help prevent or better manage this condition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Breast cancer surgery (mastectomy) with pain assessment
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help identify women at higher risk for chronic pain after mastectomy, leading to better prevention and tailored pain management strategies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The findings may not apply to all patients, and the factors identified might not fully explain why some women develop chronic pain.
