Can a common nutrient hurt your heart? scientists test a single pill

NCT ID NCT03646175

Summary

This study aimed to understand if a single, large dose of choline—a nutrient found in foods like eggs and meat—could temporarily harm blood vessel function in healthy adults. Researchers gave 29 participants either choline or a placebo pill on two separate occasions and measured how well their arteries expanded. The goal was to see if this could help explain a potential link between choline, a gut-produced substance called TMAO, and heart disease risk.
