Could a natural brush beat metal tools for implant gum disease?
NCT ID NCT06830200
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tests whether a brush made from chitosan (a natural substance from shrimp shells) works better than a standard metal tool for treating peri-implantitis, a gum infection around dental implants that can cause bone loss. Sixty adults with infected implants will receive non-surgical cleaning with either the chitosan brush or a titanium curette. Researchers will track gum health and bone levels over 12 months to see which method reduces inflammation and stops disease progression.
