First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study compares two FDA-cleared devices used to soften and open the cervix before a dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedure in the second trimester. One device is a balloon catheter, the other is a set of absorbent rods (osmotic dilators). The goal is to see which method works better and makes the procedure faster and easier. About 50 pregnant people between 19 and 23 weeks will take part.
