Brain oxygen check during shoulder surgery: could it prevent complications?

NCT ID NCT07270341

First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study watches 40 adults having shoulder surgery while sitting semi-upright (beach chair position). Researchers use a special light-based device (NIRS) to measure brain oxygen levels and compare them with standard vital signs like heart rate and blood pressure. The goal is to see if NIRS gives extra warning about reduced blood flow to the brain, especially in patients with conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. No new treatment is given—only extra monitoring.
