Eye surgery safety study: one monitor may replace many nurses

NCT ID NCT02037009

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether a central monitoring station outside the operating room is as safe as having an anesthesia nurse in each room during eye surgeries like cataract removal. 900 adults having eye surgery with local anesthesia took part. The goal was to see if this approach could work without increasing risks like high blood pressure or low oxygen during the procedure.
