Immune cell therapy takes aim at type 1 diabetes in early trial

Summary
This early-phase study tests whether specially modified immune cells (called CD6-CAR Tregs) can safely control type 1 diabetes. The cells are designed to stop the immune system from attacking insulin-producing cells. Six adults with stage 3 type 1 diabetes will receive their own modified cells to see if the approach is safe and feasible.
