New care bundle aims to slash deadly gut disease in preemies by boosting breastmilk feeding

NCT ID NCT05934123

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a set of guidelines (a care bundle) helped more premature babies receive their own mother's milk and reduced rates of necrotising enterocolitis (NEC), a life-threatening gut condition. Researchers analyzed medical records of over 53,000 babies born before 32 weeks in England and Wales. The goal was to see if the bundle worked and which parts were most helpful.
