Dialysis heart risk: could a workout or arm squeeze offer protection?
NCT ID NCT06856512
First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tested two simple methods to protect the heart during dialysis: moderate exercise and a technique called remote ischemic preconditioning (rIPC), which involves briefly inflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm. 33 adults on dialysis tried each method during separate sessions. Researchers measured heart function and blood markers to see if either approach reduced heart strain. The goal was to find a safe, practical way to lower heart risks for people on dialysis.
