Hidden clot risk in rare heart disease revealed by CT scans
NCT ID NCT07648303
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study uses advanced CT scans to find out how common blood clots are inside the heart chambers of people with cardiac amyloidosis, a condition where abnormal proteins build up in the heart. Researchers will scan 200 adults diagnosed with this disease to detect clots that may raise stroke risk, even in those without irregular heartbeats. The goal is to better understand who is at risk and improve prevention strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could reveal how often dangerous blood clots form in the hearts of people with cardiac amyloidosis, helping doctors better prevent strokes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any new therapy, and the findings may not apply to all patients with cardiac amyloidosis.
