Summary

This study looks at whether drinking a special carbohydrate drink before major urologic surgery can help control blood sugar and improve recovery. Thirty adults without diabetes will be randomly assigned to get either the special drink or a standard sports drink. Researchers will track blood sugar levels and check for complications after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
specialized carbohydrate drink (UCAN SuperStarch)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple way to improve recovery and reduce complications after major urologic surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It also excludes people with diabetes, who make up a large portion of surgery patients.

Phase numbers describe drug development. The registry uses this when they do not apply, as it does for trials of devices, procedures or behaviour changes, and for observational studies.
