First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This early-stage trial is testing a new treatment made from umbilical cord blood cells, called CD19-BCMA CAR-T cells, in 45 people with severe lupus, scleroderma, or Sjogren's syndrome with lung complications. The main goal is to check safety, especially serious side effects within the first month. Researchers will also look at how well the disease responds over the next few months to years.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
umbilical cord blood CD19-BCMA CAR-T cells
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for people with severe autoimmune diseases that haven't responded to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 45 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. There are risks of serious side effects from the chemotherapy and CAR-T cells, including cytokine release syndrome.
