Lung cancer drug trial halted early – too few patients to draw conclusions
NCT ID NCT04926831
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested the drug capmatinib, given before and after surgery, in people with a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (stages IB to IIIB) that has a MET gene change. Only 4 people took part before the trial was stopped early, so there is not enough information to know if the drug helps. The main goal was to see if capmatinib could shrink tumors enough to improve surgery results.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
capmatinib (a targeted therapy pill)
What this could lead to
If this approach had worked, it could have pointed toward a new treatment option for people with MET-mutated lung cancer before and after surgery.
What could go wrong
The trial was terminated early with only 4 participants, so we have very little data. It is unclear if capmatinib is effective or safe in this setting.
