New drug combo may replace plasma exchange for rare blood disorder

Summary
This study tested a new approach for people with a rare, life-threatening blood clotting disorder called immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP). Instead of the standard treatment of plasma exchange, participants received a combination of the drug caplacizumab and immune-suppressing therapy. The goal was to see if this combination could achieve remission without needing plasma exchange. The study involved 51 adults aged 18 to 80 and lasted up to 24 weeks per participant.
