Can a common diabetes drug shield failing kidneys?
NCT ID NCT05309785
First seen Mar 18, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tests canagliflozin, a drug typically used for diabetes, in people with advanced chronic kidney disease (stages 4 and 5) including those on dialysis. The goal is to see if it safely reduces protein in the urine, a marker of kidney damage, and to measure how the drug behaves in the body. About 35 adults with severely reduced kidney function or on hemodialysis will take the drug for up to 26 weeks.
