Could a gallstone drug stop statins from raising blood sugar?

NCT ID NCT06684106

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests whether Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), a drug used for gallstones, can prevent high blood sugar in people taking statins for high cholesterol. About 128 adults with high cholesterol but no diabetes will take either UDCA or a placebo alongside their statin for 6 months. Researchers will measure changes in blood sugar and safety to see if UDCA helps avoid this common statin side effect.
