Baby lung study: does bronchiolitis spark asthma?
NCT ID NCT00676351
First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study followed 29 infants who had bronchiolitis (a serious chest infection) in their first year to see if it leads to asthma by age 3. Researchers tested their lung function and did allergy skin tests at several checkpoints. Many children dropped out, but among those who stayed, 41% showed signs of twitchy airways, a possible early sign of asthma. The study highlights the need for more research with more children and longer follow-up.
