Could a simple breath test replace swabs for COVID-19?

NCT ID NCT06402318

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study is testing a breathalyzer kiosk that can detect COVID-19, flu, and RSV by analyzing a person's breath. About 100 adults, both with and without symptoms, will breathe into the device for 8 seconds. The goal is to see if the breathalyzer is as accurate as the standard nose swab test (RT-PCR). If successful, this could provide a fast, non-invasive way to screen for respiratory viruses in places like hospitals or military bases.
