Mental workouts aim to shield heart surgery patients from Post-Op brain fog

NCT ID NCT04493996

Summary

This study is testing whether doing brain-training exercises before heart surgery can help prevent common post-surgery problems like confusion (delirium) and memory decline. One hundred patients scheduled for elective heart surgery will be randomly assigned to either do daily paper-and-pencil brain training at home for 2-3 weeks before their operation or to receive no training. Researchers will then track who develops mental issues after surgery to see if the training made a difference.
