New monitor may make brain death testing less invasive

NCT ID NCT06983990

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looked at 35 adults undergoing the apnea test for brain death. Researchers wanted to see if a non-invasive finger clip (Oxygen Reserve Index) could accurately measure oxygen levels instead of repeated blood draws. They also checked if a carbon dioxide monitor could replace blood tests for carbon dioxide. The goal is to make the brain death diagnosis process safer and more comfortable for patients.
