First seen Jun 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether mixing an electrolyte beverage with water improves the quality and tolerability of bowel preparation before colonoscopy. 405 adults scheduled for colonoscopy will be randomly assigned to drink polyethylene glycol (PEG) with water only, or with a low or medium amount of electrolyte drink. The goal is to see if the electrolyte mix helps people drink the full preparation and improves bowel cleanliness.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) mixed with water or electrolyte beverage
What this could lead to
If it works, this could make bowel preparation before colonoscopy easier to tolerate and more effective, potentially improving colorectal cancer screening.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial focused on comfort and preparation quality, not a new treatment. The results may not change standard practice significantly.
