Botox before belly surgery: simple shot may spare patients from bigger operations

NCT ID NCT07349628

First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at whether injecting botulinum toxin A (like Botox) into the abdominal muscles before surgery helps doctors close complex incisional hernias more easily. 32 adults with large hernias received the injection as part of their care. The goal was to see if the muscle relaxation allowed the hernia to be closed without needing a more extensive surgical technique. The study measured how often the simpler closure worked and tracked complications and early hernia return.
