New blood test could cut unnecessary transfusions in liver patients

NCT ID NCT07437755

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at a better method (called ROTEM) to decide if people with advanced liver disease need blood transfusions before risky procedures. Currently, many patients get transfusions based on standard tests, but this may not be accurate. The study will compare ROTEM-guided decisions to usual care in 116 adults with liver cirrhosis, aiming to reduce unnecessary transfusions while keeping patients safe from bleeding.
