New scan reveals how heart surgery affects blood flow throughout the body
NCT ID NCT04941248
First seen Mar 18, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study used a special full-body PET/CT scan to measure blood flow in 34 people: healthy volunteers and patients with severe aortic stenosis (a narrowed heart valve). Researchers compared blood flow before and after valve replacement surgery (TAVR) to see how the procedure affects other organs. The goal was to better understand whole-body blood perfusion, not to treat or cure the disease.
