ER pharmacists may save lives by catching hidden infections after discharge

NCT ID NCT07486362

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether having a pharmacist review blood culture results after patients leave the emergency department (ED) can speed up notification of dangerous infections. Blood cultures can take up to 48 hours to show bacteria, and delays in telling patients can lead to serious problems like sepsis. The study will compare how quickly patients are contacted when a pharmacist is involved versus standard care.
